Aamir Khan, the perfectionist superstar of bollywood who surpassed his own box office record (created by ‘Ghajini’) with his latest flick ‘3 Idiots’ on the home ground, has managed to challenge the Overseas hegemony held by Shah Rukh Khan’s glossy and NRI centric movies.

In fact, Aamir Khan-Kareena Kapoor starrer ‘3 Idiots’ has foxed trade pundits by its opening collection of Rs 10 crore in the US alone. Earlier, only a Shah Rukh Khan-Karan Johar combination was considered good enough to go even near to that figure in the US. But Aamir Khan has changed it all.

The strange case has been reported from Australia, where theatres had to reduce the shows of James Cameron’s blockbuster flick ‘Avatar’ to accommodate Aamir Khan’s ‘3 Idiots’. The theatres were amazed by the response to Aamir Khan’s latest flick and thought it prudent to go in accordance with the demand of cine going public.

As is well known, Aamir Khan’s ‘3 Idiots’ crossed the Rs 100 crore mark on its fourth day of release in India, which was the record for any Indian movie so far. The movie has struck right chord with the audiences and is going great guns at almost every centre.

A significant feature in the case of Aamir Khan’s ‘3 Idiots’ has been the increasing craze for the movie as the time passes. The trade reports say that Friday registered around ninety percent attendance for Aamir Khan’s flick, but it rose to around ninety- five percent on Saturday and crossing all barriers on Sunday and Monday.

Sources from the UK say that Aamir Khan’s ‘3 Idiots’ has already touched the level of Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna’ collections and is expected to march much beyond that. What is surprising that most of theatres are closed for Christmas etc but Aamir Khan’s film was not affected by all this.

‘3 Idiots’ has Aamir Khan playing the part of Rancho, an engineering student at one of the prestigious engineering colleges. Kareena Kapoor plays the role of Pia, while Sharman Joshi and R Madhavan also play pivotal roles.

The film has been directed by Rajkumar Hirani of ‘Munnabhai’ fame and produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra. It is based on Chetan Bhagat’s novel ‘Five Point Someone’ and had a budget of Rs 35 crore
